Making sure that your home’s exterior is properly maintained is one of the best ways to protect your home from the elements. A layer of top quality paint won’t just make your house look more beautiful, it will also act as a defense against inclement weather such as heavy rain, snow and even damage caused by the sun. At Doxa Painting & Services, we provide our clients with the highest possible level of protection from water and UV damage, while at the same time making your home look more beautiful than ever.

The Exterior Home Painting Process

Painting or repainting a home sounds like it could be done by just about anyone. However, it takes a skilled professional to determine what the most suitable paint and repainting method is required for each home. Furthermore, prior to painting, there are a number of steps that need to be taken to ensure that each painting job is done correctly. Take a look at some of the steps our team at Doxa Painting & Services generally take to prepare for painting the exterior of your home:
  • Washing your home’s exterior in order to remove any mildew or dirt that has accumulated over the years
  • If you happen to have fungus, we treat it where necessary
  • We scrape off old paint where it is peeling
  • If you have holes or gaps in your exterior that could admit water, we caulk them
  • Surfaces like raw wood or materials prone to water damage are coated with a layer of exterior primer
  • Once these steps have been performed, we apply top quality paint
  • Paint is applied using either a spray, roll or a brush, depending on the texture of your home’s exterior and what best approach is to give you clean, sharp results
  • We make sure to cover small details using a brush and roll to ensure precision
  • We keep our work site clean and clear on a day-to-day basis so that your home has a neat and tidy appearance while the job is in the process of being completed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you match my current paint color?

Yes! We can match to a current paint color by either getting the color make and number off of the original can of paint or by taking into our paint supplier some of the original paint or a piece of material that has the original paint on it. It’s important to note that most color matches will not be exact, especially for older paints that have been exposed to sun or weathering, but our paint suppliers can achieve a remarkably close color match if we have any of the items mentioned above.

How often should I have my home repainted?

In the pacific northwest climate, generally 7 to 10 years is a good is a good repaint cycle to keep your home protected and in optimal condition. There are many factors that go into how long an exterior repaint will last, such as the condition of the siding, the tree coverage and weather exposure and the quality of prep done and paint material used in layers of paint underneath.

The southern and western exposure sides tend to wear faster and are more prone to paint peeling and color fading, as those sides get the most intense heat and sun, as well as a lot of the hard winds and rains. The standard paints we use are some of the highest quality in the industry, and while you will often see things like “lifetime warranty” on their products, it’s unrealistic to expect.

Why should I choose Doxa Painting for my home exterior repainting needs?

Our Process: We have a detailed, professional painting process that each of our painters is trained in to make sure our team delivers on what you have trusted us to help with.

Our People: Every team member is known—relationally, and officially, we know our people. Each team member has background checked and carries with them a photo ID badge so you know who they are and that they’re with Doxa. But what I think is really special is the way we strive to know and care for one another as whole people, and build a supportive community within our company that helps each of us and our families grow and flourish. See here to learn a little more about our incredible team of painters and service technicians: our team

Our Principles: Our process is not perfect, nor are our people, but we are committed to a principle of being better tomorrow than we are today, and to never stop growing and helping our customers have someone they can trust to do the right thing and help take care of their painting and property maintenance needs. We still mess up (and yes, we’ve even received that dreaded 1-star review). But when that happens, you can count on us to own it and do everything we can to make it right.

What do I have to do to get ready for the painters?

For exterior painting, our team will need at least 1 to 2 feet of clearance between any trees or shrubs and the surfaces they will be painting. The day of pressure washing to clean the outside of the home, we will need all windows closed and any valuables that hang on or sit near the house to be taken down or moved away.

For interior painting, we will go over a plan with you for which rooms will need to be ready at which points in the painting process. In most cases all items hanging on the walls will need to be removed, furniture moved to the center of the room, and any cats or dogs will need to be kept out of rooms being painted while the work is being completed (…ask Coby to tell you about a lovely little cat that hopped into a pan of paint sometime ;). If you need help with any of these things, just let your Doxa Sales and Project Manager know!
